Feedback for Managing Editors

Modified on Sun, 27 Nov 2022 at 05:42 PM

Contently operates a two-way feedback system that asks contributors to rate their managing editors and vise versa.

Freelancers are prompted to leave feedback via the Managing Editor Feedback Survey after submitting three projects to the same editor in a six-month period.

Who are Managing Editors and what do they do?

Managing Editors are freelancers in the Contently Talent Network who partner with clients to execute content strategies. They also:

  • Manage Contently contributor teams

  • Solicit pitches from contributors

  • Create and assign project briefs

  • Edit content according to clients’ brand guidelines

  • Provide strategic-editorial insights to advance clients’ content goals

To learn more about the Managing Editor role, take a look at the job description.

Who is my Contently Managing Editor?

Your Contently Managing Editor may be the person on a Contently publication assigning and editing projects, accepting or declining pitches, or issuing pitch requests. This person may also be a member of a client team unaffiliated with Contently’s Editorial Services team, however. If you’re unsure who your Managing Editor is or whether a publication to which you’re staffed has a Managing Editor, ask

How can I tell if my editor is a Contently freelancer or someone on a Contently client’s team?

If you are unsure as to whether your editor is a Contently Managing Editor, reach out to and we’ll get you an answer.

Is my Managing Editor a Contently employee?

No. Managing Editors are freelancers in the Contently Talent Network. They are thoroughly vetted and trained by Contently’s Editorial Services team.

What type of feedback will I be asked to give in the Managing Editor Feedback Survey?

The Managing Editor Feedback Survey asks the following questions:

  • This editor gives me adequate feedback and direction on pitches and projects. (Agree/disagree)

  • Project briefs, directions and timelines are clear and consistent. (Agree/disagree)

  • This editor clearly communicates the publication’s content marketing goals and strategy. (Agree/disagree)

  • This editor edits, provides feedback, and communicates promptly and in a professional manner. (Agree/disagree)

  • This editor gives me the required 24 hours to respond to comments and at least 48 hours to make revisions. (Agree/disagree)

  • Do you have any additional feedback for this editor? (Note: Though anonymous, this feedback may be shared with the editor verbatim.) [Comments field]

Is my feedback anonymous?

Feedback is anonymous but comments will be shared verbatim.

How will my feedback be used?

Feedback will be used by editors to improve their performance, and by Contently’s Editorial Services team to ensure that editors are meeting standards vis-a-vis contributor management.

When will my editor receive my feedback?

Feedback is delivered to editors en masse twice annually, usually during the January-March and July-September timeframes.

Can my editor retaliate against my feedback?
