The left side of the screen is where your story lives. Here you'll be able to input and edit your headline, body copy, embedded images, and more.

Version Control

On the left side of the screen, above your headline, you can select different versions of your story to refer back to and compare against other versions.

This tab allows you to easily reference back to the story brief for the original assignment requirements and the publication's content strategy.

Every project in Contently is managed by a workflow — a schedule of events that dictate what actions need to be taken by stakeholders in order to move the project toward completion. Often workflows involve steps such as "compose story," "edit story," "client review," "upload photos," and so on. 

Please note: only the current assignee can convert the content into text editor mode. However, anyone can provide comments at any time. If you are the current assignee, you will see the "Claim" button in the top right hand corner of the screen. 

All collaboration takes place on the Contently platform. 

General comments

Use the comments tab to communicate with your Managing Editor and your client. It works like Instagram ⁠— you can direct questions to specific people by tagging them. Write @ followed by their name, e.g. @Mark, and they will be notified via email that you left a comment for them.

In-line comments

If you want to comment on specific text, highlight it and give your feedback. The comment will live in the comments tab.

You can filter comments by commenter or by status (open comments, resolved comments, all).

Please note: everyone on the story can see your comments, not just the person you tagged.

This is where you can upload and attach attach images, videos, and more. If you include an image into a story in the text, it will also appear as a file here. 

The assets tab is linked to your publication's media library, and everything you put into the assets tab will also be stored in the media library.

The activity tab provides a paper trail of who did what and when. Here you can see all the activity on a story, like who created it and assigned it, who left comments, who uploaded stuff and when, and all that jazz. 

The review tab has three fairly hefty sub sections: Quality, Optimization, and Tone & Style. 

Quality

Our quality checker helps you stay on top of common language and editorial issues. The plagiarism checker, broken link checker, and double word checker are among the tools that live here.

Optimization

Our optimization tools provide you insights about your story that will not only help you make sure your content gets discovered but is engaging to your target audience. Here you'll find insights such as reading time, headline character count, headline relevancy, and SEO keywords.

Tone & Style

Our tools in this section make sure that your stories follow the desired style set by the publication. By using these tools, you and your managing editor can know the tone of a story and how it compares with publication's overall target tone. You can also monitor the usage of blocklisted words or any instance of first person use (in case the publication doesn't allow that).
