How do I deal with a change in scope?

Modified on Sun, 27 Nov, 2022 at 4:59 PM

As you know, revisions are an essential part of the collaboration process. While we pay upon first submission, we trust our contributors to stick around for follow-up questions and changes to ensure the story meets the client's requirements. Two revision rounds are to be expected and three if the piece is long or complex.

However, while rare, the case may arise where a client asks for revisions that are out of scope of the original project—for example, asking for additional interviews or an entirely new angle. If this happens, please express your concerns to the managing editor or editorial point of contact via a direct message to them on the platform (not in the public comments area). If you do not have a managing editor nor an editorial point of contact, please email help@contently.com with a link to the story and an explanation of the scope change.

We'll review the revisions requested with an in-house team and, if they are indeed out of scope, we'll ensure there is an appropriate price associated with the next steps—along with proper communication with the client. Again, we want to be sure you're compensated and treated fairly.
