How do I accept and submit stories on the Contently platform?

Modified on Sun, 27 Nov, 2022 at 4:59 PM

Once a story is assigned to you, you'll be notified via email. (Not receiving notification emails? Click here to find out how to change your email settings.) There are three stages of an assignment:

  1. Claiming the story

  2. Writing and submitting the story

  3. Cashing out

1. Claiming the story

In your email, click "View story" and you'll be taken to the Contently platform where you can accept or decline the assignment and review the story details (brief, pay, deadline).

To accept the story, click Claim in the top right hand corner. This will make your story screen editable.

2. Writing and submitting the story

Once you claim the story, you are able to enter a story headline in the first text field, and write your story or insert multimedia formats into the second field. Your submission will save automatically and you'll be able to see the word count at the bottom if applicable. Multimedia submissions must be complete before uploading to Contently as our platform does not have multimedia editing capability at this time.

Once you have completed your story, click "Submit" in top righthand corner.

Your story will now go through our workflow and plagiarism scanner. To view the workflow, click the tab with four lines to the right of your story screen.

3. Cashing out

When you submit your work, you’ll receive the payment that’s built into your workflow step. Consult the story’s creator if you have questions about fees. Even if you are paid in full upon submission, there might still be some revisions to manage, so be sure to watch your email and see your edits through if needed.

Note: Everyone gets paid after submitting the first version of their story. We trust our contributors to commit up to two rounds of revisions after a story is reviewed by the managing editor or client. Not sure how to cash out? Click here.
